Scott Healey is the Director, Business Development at BluMetric Environmental Inc. and one of our Game Changers for October/November. After a rewarding career in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Scott sought an organization that aligned with his values and where he could make a meaningful impact. His goal at BluMetric is not only to drive business success but also to mentor and develop a young, talented team—a role he finds especially fulfilling. Though Scott has been with BluMetric for a short time, his passion for contributing to the company’s future has only grown stronger. He credits the veteran’s networking organization, Treble Victor, for connecting him to BluMetric. While his title is Senior Business Development Manager, Scott enjoys contributing across various market and service lines to deliver solutions to BluMetric’s partners.

How did you start out in this industry and how has it brought you to where you are today?

There was nothing very strategic about it quite frankly. After a rewarding career in the CAF, I was looking for an organization that had the same values that I have and that I could make a difference with. Not just from a business perspective, but through the mentoring and development of a young and talented team, something I very much enjoy. Though I have only been with BluMetric a short time, it has only made me more motivated to contribute to its future success. I want to give a shout out to Treble Victor, a veteran’s networking organization, who connected me to BluMetric.

What is your role at your organization today?

Currently we have settled on Director, Business Development, although I enjoy contributing across all our market and service lines to provide solutions to our partners.

What was your most challenging moment?

It’s about living up to my own expectations, so it’s not a one time deal, it’s every day trying to do your best.

What was your A-HA moment or epiphany that you think will resonate most with our reader, tell us that story.

After a long career in the military, that moment came when I knew I made the right choice in joining BluMetric.

How has innovation become engrained in your organization’s culture and how is it being optimized?

From the field service perspective the requirement to get it done at all costs cultivates a culture of innovation, because that broken water system jeopardizes the mission. You are not going long without water.

What technologies, business models, and trends will drive the biggest changes in your industry over the next two years?

Like with most industries, the water business will be driven by improved materials for lighter and more durable products, energy efficiency and new energy sources without sacrificing water flow for a greener world, artificial intelligence to monitor systems more accurately and more advanced engineering. BluMetric is and will be exploring all of these future inputs into the design and build of our systems.

What is your parting piece of advice?

Whoa, giving advice, don’t we all love giving it? But I guess at this phase of my life I would just say, live life to the fullest extent with empathy and understanding, and if you are not happy with your situation, change it.
