North Vector Dynamics Bags European Cash, Eyes NATO Missile Market

The deal pushes NVD's valuation past $90 million.

Calgary's North Vector Dynamics just landed a strategic investment from CSG N.V., the Dutch-listed European defence heavyweight. The deal pushes NVD's valuation past $90 million. The deal’s dollar figure: undisclosed

Why it matters: A Canadian missile startup just paired its own IP with a European manufacturer that ships to more than 70 countries. That's the kind of scale-up NVD couldn't buy on its own, and it stays Canadian-owned while getting it.

The players

NVD, founded in 2022, builds precision interceptors, autonomy tech, and propulsion systems. CSG is a different animal entirely: 14,000-plus employees, manufacturing in 11 countries, EUR 6.7 billion in 2025 revenue. Its stable already includes Excalibur Army, Tatra Trucks, MSM Group, and The Kinetic Group.

CEO Paul Ziadé called CSG a long-term strategic partner, not just a cheque. CSG chairman Michal Strnad name-checked autonomous systems, AI, and cheap air defence as the future. Both sound like they mean it: CSG's U.S. arm just picked up an Iowa ammunition plant contract, a new engine facility under Firecrest Aerospace, and a fresh subsidiary, CSG Land Systems North America.

The tech

NVD's flagship is the CM-70, a low-cost interceptor built to counter drones without breaking the budget on every intercept. It's ITAR-free, NDAA-compliant, and designed to slot into existing air defence networks. Defence Research and Development Canada has backed early funding and testing.

Beyond counter-drone work, NVD is building out strike and interception systems across speed, range, and payload classes, hypersonics included. Co-founder Craig Johansen's background: NASA Langley, the Schulich Research Chair in Aerospace Engineering, hypersonic propulsion expertise. Retired General Tom Lawson, a former NORAD deputy commander, advises the company.

The bigger picture: Drone warfare in Ukraine and the Gulf has made cheap, scalable interceptors a hot commodity. CSG gets a foothold in next-gen Canadian missile tech. NVD gets a manufacturing and export network it would otherwise need years to build. Ottawa gets a sovereign missile capability with a European accelerant attached.
