Ocean Software has been selected by SkyAlyne to deliver the Resource Management and Scheduling (RM&S) capability for Canada's Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program, supporting the Royal Canadian Air Force's shift to a modernised training system.
Under the agreement, Ocean will supply its FlightPRO and TAMS platforms to manage the planning, scheduling and coordination of training operations across FAcT. Implementation is expected to begin in the coming months.
The program
SkyAlyne, a joint venture between CAE and KF Aerospace, is the prime contractor for FAcT, which will modernise pilot and aircrew training for the RCAF. The program will operate out of 15 Wing Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, 15 Wing Southport in Manitoba, and 17 Wing Winnipeg in Manitoba.
FAcT introduces five new training aircraft fleets, totalling 71 new aircraft. The program is managed jointly by industry, the military and government through a Joint Management Office in Ottawa.
A two-decade partnership
Ocean's selection extends a relationship with the RCAF that spans more than 20 years. FlightPRO has supported training management, personnel readiness, scheduling and operational coordination across two programs FAcT is set to replace: NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) and Contracted Flying Training and Support (CFTS).
"Canada has been one of Ocean's most important defence partnerships for more than 20 years," said Pete Smith, chief executive officer, Ocean Software. "We are proud to be working with SkyAlyne in support of the Royal Canadian Air Force's transition to the Future Aircrew Training program. FAcT represents a significant investment in the future of Canadian military aviation, and we are pleased to contribute proven capability already trusted across the RCAF enterprise."
Kevin Lemke, general manager, SkyAlyne, said the selection builds on that established track record.
"FAcT represents a significant step forward in how Canada trains its future pilots and aircrew," Lemke said. "Ocean Software's long-standing experience across existing RCAF training programs provides a strong foundation as we modernise training and deliver a world-class capability for the Royal Canadian Air Force."
Why it matters
FAcT is one of the largest transformations of Canadian military flight training in decades, consolidating legacy programs under a single system and introducing an entirely new aircraft fleet mix. Scheduling and resource management tools sit at the operational core of that transition, coordinating aircraft, instructors and student pilots across three bases in two provinces.
Ocean's continuity from NFTC and CFTS into FAcT means the RCAF retains an established scheduling backbone through the changeover, rather than standing up a new system from scratch alongside new aircraft and new training locations.
